Falling for Christmas marks the iconic return of Lindsay Lohan to the big screen. The beloved star of teen comedies revives her acting career perfectly by playing an eccentric heiress in a Christmas romcom—a treat for millennials. The story follows the classic “opposites attract” formula. Sierra, a spoiled heiress to a ski resort, has a father who wants her to join the family business, but she dreams of becoming a blogger. While attempting to capture the perfect photo on a mountain peak with her boyfriend, bad weather disrupts their plans, and Sierra falls off the mountain, losing her memory. Luckily, she is found by a charming inn owner who offers her a place to stay.

Let It Snow

IMDb: 5.9/10

2019, Comedy, Romance

USA, PG-13

Director: Luke Snellin

Top cast: Isabela Merced, Shameik Moore, Odeya Rush

What to watch if you’re sick of Love Actually? Let It Snow perfectly captures the spirit of Richard Curtis’s classic. The setting is a small town where the residents of Greystown are watching a snowstorm that forces them to stay indoors. Against this backdrop, on Christmas Eve, a group of teenagers experience pivotal moments in their lives: unexpected romance, breakups, party planning, and meeting a famous singer. This anthology features stories with well-known actors and intertwining plotlines.

Spirited

IMDb: 6.7/10

2022, Comedy, Family, Musical

USA, PG-13

Director: Sean Anders

Top cast: Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds, Octavia Spencer

Spirited transforms the classic Christmas tale of a wealthy man facing karma, inspired by Charles Dickens, into a comedy. On Christmas Eve, the spirits of the Past, Present, and Future visit successful businessman Clint to guide him onto the right path. However, Clint has forgotten what a conscience is and refuses to change. The spirits come to believe that Clint might be beyond saving, but Marley, the spirit of the Present, refuses to give up. Clint also prompts Marley to reflect on his own life. This sparks an adventure where these two unlikely characters help each other to rethink their own lives.

A Christmas Story: Christmas

IMDb: 6.7/10

2022, Comedy, Family

USA, Germany, PG

Director: Clay Kaytis

Top cast: Peter Billingsley, Erinn Hayes, River Drosche

Clay Kaytis’s film is a sequel to the 1983 classic A Christmas Story. Peter Billingsley returns as Ralphie Parker, now grown up. Fans of the original movie will find the story of adult Ralphie especially intriguing. Set in 1973, the film follows Ralphie, who lives in Chicago with his wife and two children. He’s been trying to write a novel, but publishers aren’t interested in something so lengthy. One day, Ralphie learns of his father’s passing. He heads back to his hometown with his family to support his mother and create a special Christmas for his loved ones.

Holidate

IMDb: 6.1/10

2020, Comedy, Romance

USA, TV-MA

Director: John Whitesell

Top cast: Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, Kristin Chenoweth

Holidate is the perfect remedy if you’re not feeling the holiday spirit. It’s a cheesy, cliché-filled film that’s great for unwinding from the pre-holiday rush. Sloane feels pressured by her family, as her mother constantly hints that she needs a date for holiday gatherings. One day, she meets Jackson, who isn’t looking for a serious relationship but is also tired of celebrating alone. They agree to be each other’s date for holidays, enjoying special occasions together without any strings attached.

A Boy Called Christmas

IMDb: 6.7/10

2021, Adventure, Drama, Family, Fantasy

France, UK, PG

Director: Gil Kenan

Top cast: Maggie Smith, Isabella O’Sullivan, Joel Fry

Three children are struggling to find joy in the upcoming Christmas season, having recently lost their mother and not yet ready for the December festivities. On Christmas Eve, they stay with their Aunt Ruth because their father is busy working through the night. The wise aunt begins telling them a story about a boy named Nikolas, who lived long ago in the northern woods with his lumberjack father. A local king promised a valuable reward to anyone who could restore hope to their land, prompting Nikolas’s father to journey to the village of the elves. Soon, Nikolas follows his father and becomes embroiled in incredible adventures. Nikolas’s journey is an alternative Christmas tale and a reimagining of Santa Claus, based on Matt Haig’s story. A Boy Called Christmas is a heartwarming film with all the elements of a holiday classic: a sprinkle of magic, an adventurous spirit, and a touching ending.

About Fate

IMDb: 6.4/10

2022, Comedy, Romance

USA, R

Director: Marius Vaysberg

Top cast: Emma Roberts, Thomas Mann, Madelaine Petsch

Emma Roberts continues her work with the creators of Holidate in another holiday story where her character inevitably shares a kiss with her love interest by the end. About Fate is not a remake of the Soviet classic – it only shares a similar premise. Margot wakes up on New Year’s Eve, hoping her beloved will propose. Meanwhile, in another home, Griffin starts his day with the same intention of proposing to his girlfriend, Clementine. Both of their plans fall apart, and their dreams of marriage are dashed, leaving them with a spoiled festive spirit. But fate, or perhaps a simple mix-up, intervenes when Griffin mistakenly enters Margot’s apartment, thinking it’s his own, and becomes an uninvited guest. Luckily, Margot needs a new date for her sister’s wedding.
