The Mask was originally intended to be a dark horror film based on the comic of the same name, but the director’s vision never came to life. Instead, the film became a Jim Carrey showcase, with him channeling classic Warner Bros. cartoon characters, and it also marked Cameron Diaz’s debut. The story follows a timid and shy bank clerk who struggles with confidence, especially around beautiful women. By a stroke of fate, he stumbles upon a magical mask that gives him the power to transform into an invincible, cartoonish character with a wild, mischievous streak.

Of course, the results are hilariously unpredictable. Interestingly, in the movie, Robin Williams’ character divorces his wife and becomes a nanny for his kids. In real life, the actor divorced his wife and later married the nanny.

On their first day, they run into Tucker and Dale, two scruffy farmers who are also out for a relaxing weekend in nature. Mistaking these rough-looking but harmless guys for murderous locals, the students decide to fight back against what they think are dangerous hillbillies.

If you don’t take the plot too seriously or over analyze it, you’ll enjoy a fresh twist on the classic “heist gone wrong” story.
