The Mask
IMDb: 6.9/10
1994, Action, Comedy, Crime, Fantasy
USA, PG-13
Director: Chuck Russell
Top cast: Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, Peter Riegert
The Mask was originally intended to be a dark horror film based on the comic of the same name, but the director’s vision never came to life. Instead, the film became a Jim Carrey showcase, with him channeling classic Warner Bros. cartoon characters, and it also marked Cameron Diaz’s debut. The story follows a timid and shy bank clerk who struggles with confidence, especially around beautiful women. By a stroke of fate, he stumbles upon a magical mask that gives him the power to transform into an invincible, cartoonish character with a wild, mischievous streak.
Mrs. Doubtfire
IMDb: 7.1/10
1993, Comedy, Drama
USA, PG-13
Director: Chris Columbus
Top cast: Robin Williams, Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan
Problems rain down on Daniel Hillard: he loses his job, his wife leaves him, and after the divorce, he’s only allowed to see his kids once a week. But Daniel comes up with a clever plan — he disguises himself as an elderly woman, Mrs. Doubtfire, and gets hired by his ex-wife as the housekeeper. This way, he can see his children every day. Of course, the results are hilariously unpredictable. Interestingly, in the movie, Robin Williams’ character divorces his wife and becomes a nanny for his kids. In real life, the actor divorced his wife and later married the nanny.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
IMDb: 7.5/10
2010, Comedy, Horror
Canada, UK, USA, India, R
Director: Eli Craig
Top cast: Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is a horror-comedy that parodies all the classic horror films. It's both hilarious and, at times, quite gory. The story follows a group of college students who head to the countryside for a weekend of fun: drinking beer, swimming in the lake, and enjoying the fresh air. On their first day, they run into Tucker and Dale, two scruffy farmers who are also out for a relaxing weekend in nature. Mistaking these rough-looking but harmless guys for murderous locals, the students decide to fight back against what they think are dangerous hillbillies.
The Instigators
IMDb: 6.2/10
2024, Action, Comedy, Crime, Drama, Mystery, Thriller
USA, R
Director: Doug Liman
Top cast: Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Hong Chau
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon produced The Instigators as a way to pass the time between major premieres, merely because they missed working together. The film follows Rory, a former Marine struggling with alimony and mortgage debts, and Cobby, who’s just out of prison and also in need of money. Desperate, they plan a robbery, but it quickly goes off the rails. Now, Rory, Cobby, and Rory’s therapist are on the run from the police, stubborn bureaucrats, and a vengeful mob boss. If you don’t take the plot too seriously or over analyze it, you’ll enjoy a fresh twist on the classic “heist gone wrong” story.
There's Something About Mary
IMDb: 7.1/10
1998, Comedy, Romance
USA, R
Director: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly
Top cast: Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, Ben Stiller

Hot Fuzz

2007, Action, Comedy, Mystery, Thriller

Despite Philippe being confined to a wheelchair, Driss brings a new sense of adventure and excitement into his otherwise quiet life.
